Kampala socialite Brian Kirumira aka Bryan White, has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of human sacrifice and manslaughter, in connection with the death of Caroline Nalubwama, 25.

Bryan White, 38, appeared today (November 19, 2025) before Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera, who read the charges to him.

However, the magistrate declined to allow the accused to plead to the charges, which she said are capital in nature.

"This court has no jurisdiction to handle your case. Your matter is only triable by the High Court," she said.

This comes a week after his wife, Naava Nakato, was charged and remanded to Luzira Prison over the death of Nalubwama.

She was remanded together with Daisy Nalunga (Bryan White’s housewife), Daphine Abaho (advocacy officer), and Joyce Irene Nambalirwa (administrator of Mukyala Mabirizi Nursing Home).

Multiple charges

Bryan White is facing charges of human sacrifice, contrary to sections 2 (1) and 3 (b) (1) of the Prevention and Prohibition of Human Sacrifice Act.

He is also battling charges of manslaughter, specific rash and neglect, and possession of marijuana, contrary to sections 170, 178, 211, and 4(1) (2) of the Penal Code Act and Narcotic and Psychotropics Substances Act, respectively.

Bryan White is also facing charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and giving false information, together with his wife Nakato, Nalunga and Abaho.

Meanwhile, Nambalirwa is charged with manslaughter and doing a rash and negligent act causing death.

The offence of manslaughter attracts a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, on conviction, while human sacrifice is punishable by death.

The accused (Nakato, Nalunga, Abaho, Nambalirwa), were arraigned before Makindye Court Grade One Magistrate Teddy Nakawuki, who remanded them after noting that the case file had not been assigned to her court.

According to the charge sheet, Bryan White is a resident of Kyamula Zone Munyonyo Makindye Division in Kampala district.

Allegations

Prosecution alleges that Bryan White on October 22, 2025, at Kyamula Zone, Makindye Division in Kampala district, killed Nalubwama for purposes of performing or furthering witchcraft, ritual or other unlawful purposes.

Prosecution also alleges that Bryan White, between October 22 and 27, this year, at Kiruddu hospital in Makindye Division, Kampala district, unlawfully caused the death of Nalubwama by burning.

On the charge of specific rash and neglect, the prosecution alleges that Bryan White in the same period (October 22 and 27), did an act with combustible matter and omitted to take precaution against any probable danger from any material in his possession.

Prosecution further purports that Bryan White was found in possession of marijuana leaves and seeds in bottles, which is a narcotic drugs.

Bryan White, Nakato, Nalunga and Abaho are also accused of conspiring to commit a felony, namely the ritual murder of Nalubwama. The prosecution alleges that the four set fire to candle wax in a room while massaging Nalubwama’s body with a mixture of petrol and ghee as they consumed honey.

It is further alleged that Bryan White, Nakato, Nalunga and Abaho, knowingly gave false information to Detective Bruce Tumwebaze and Inspector of Police Betty Monica Kyakuwaire at Mildmay Uganda Hospital, Katwe Police Station, and the Kampala Metropolitan South offices.

They reportedly claimed that Nalubwama sustained burns and was admitted to Kiruddu Hospital, whereas she had been burnt and admitted to Mabirizi Nursing Home.

The prosecution contends that the accused were aware that this information was false and that their statements misled the police officers.

Meanwhile, Nambalirwa is charged with causing the death of Nalubwama by negligently refusing to refer her to a main hospital for further medical treatment.

According to the prosecution, Nambalirwa’s rash and negligent act, though not amounting to manslaughter, directly led to Nalubwama’s death.
