Six-year-old boy drowns in Busia septic tank

A family in Busia Municipality is in mourning after a six-year-old boy drowned in an uncovered septic tank while playing with friends.
The deceased, Maloba Abdallah, a resident of Mawero East B village, slipped and fell into the tank on September 18, 2025.
Bukedi South Police spokesperson Moses Mugwe said the tank belonged to a resident identified as Abdallah Kisitu. Neighbours reported the incident, prompting police to open a death inquiry file.
Officers documented the scene, retrieved the body, and took it for a post-mortem examination. Statements were recorded from relatives, including the child’s mother. No arrests have been made.
Police have urged residents to secure dangerous sites in their homes to prevent similar accidents. Investigations are ongoing.
