Police in Iganga, in collaboration with the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) and Defence Intelligence Security (DIS), have apprehended six suspects for their alleged involvement in fraud and impersonation.
Michael Kasadha, the Busoga East regional spokesperson, in a statement released on Friday (July 3, 2026), said the operatives targeted a criminal gang of impersonators who were misusing the name of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as well as that of his daughter, Natasha Karugire, to defraud individuals across various districts in the country.
“On Thursday, July 2, 2026, at approximately 12:00 pm, an intelligence-led operation was executed, resulting in the arrest of six male suspects. Nine mobile phones, which were utilised by the impersonators, were recovered during the operation,” Kasadha said.
The suspects were identified as Mustafa Mugudya (17), Murishidi Maganda (18), Muhammad Waiswa (21), Kaima Jamiru (17), Shafick Mulawa (17), and Sabath Ngobi (15), all of whom are residents of Nandekula A village, Bulubandi parish, Nakigo sub-county, Iganga district.
“The recovered mobile phones contained numerous fraudulent accounts, including a counterfeit youth development application fund purportedly headed by Natasha. The suspects have admitted to utilising various accounts to perpetrate their fraudulent activities,” Kasadha added.
He said the apprehended individuals have been transported to Jinja Road Police Station by the DIS team for further management.
These become the third set of suspects to be arrested over using Natasha’s name to con unsuspecting members of the public within the same area this year.
In May, Police in Busoga East arrested three people suspected of impersonating Natasha and businessman Hamis Kiggundu through a network of fake TikTok accounts.
The suspects were identified as Hassan Mugoya, 27; Ashiraf Kyakatuka, 22; and Asuman Isanga, 20. They were arrested during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Kiwatule Police Station and Iganga Central Police Station.
Kasadha said the operation followed reports of impersonation linked to social media accounts allegedly posing as high-profile public figures.
“On May 5, 2026, at around 11:00am, a team of police officers from Kiwatule Police Station together with those from Iganga Central Police Station made a joint operation, following a report of impersonation of Haji Kiggundu at Kiwatule Police Station."
He said security teams first conducted surveillance before raiding the suspects’ hideout in Nampirika A village, Bukaye Parish, Nakalama sub-county in Iganga District.
“Upon arrest, search and interrogation, it was established that the suspects were using TikTok accounts with identities of various people."
Mugoya was found with a Samsung A06 phone allegedly hosting two active TikTok accounts under the names “Natasha Karugire” and “The first daughter Natasha mus.”
Kyakatuka was reportedly found with a Samsung phone used to operate multiple accounts including “janet.kataha.muse5,” “natashakar7,” “first.daughter767,” and “ssenga.naisanga.04.”
Asuman Isanga was also found with a Samsung S10 phone linked to a TikTok account named “NATASHA.K MUSEVENI SOUL,” according to police.
On February 3, 2026, security operatives from the DIS arrested several individuals involved in impersonating Natasha. The suspects were arraigned in court.
