Four bodaboda riders, a businessman and a bouncer have been court-martialed on allegations of illegally possessing a gun and 16 bullets.

The group will return to court on November 6 for the hearing of their case.

For now, they have been remanded to Kitalya Government Prison after denying two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The charges contravene Sections 3 (1) (2) (a) of the Firearms Act, Cap 299 and attract a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment upon conviction.

The General Court Martial chairperson, Lt. Gen. Robert Freeman Mugabe, read the charges to the accused.

The accused are Paul Kasozi, 40, a bodaboda/special hire driver, businessman Geofrey Lubega, 34, a bodaboda rider and bouncer Akram Wasswa, 23, and Sharif Fred Bukenya, 32.

Others are Peter Bukenya alias Mzee, 22, and Arafat Kato, 23, a resident of Nakitokolo zone in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso district.

Prosecution alleges that on or around June 21, 2023, while at Lamamba in Nalukolongo, Kampala district, the accused were found in unlawful possession of an SMG rifle S/No. UG POL 565813739-34776.

The said gun is ordinarily the monopoly of the defence forces.

It is further alleged that during the same place and time, the group unlawfully possessed a magazine containing 16 rounds of live ammunition, also ordinarily being the monopoly of the defence forces.
