Sickle cell disease: High child mortality highlights awareness gaps

In Uganda, sickle cell disease is a major health concern, particularly among children under the age of five. Out of the 20,000 babies born with the condition every year, approximately 15,000 die before their fifth birthday, making it the leading cause of death among this age group.
