Seven arrested over campaign violence and vandalism in Adjumani

Police in Adjumani district have arrested seven people in connection with a violent incident involving the assault of political supporters and the destruction of campaign posters belonging to Local Council 5 aspirant Johnson Ananzo.


According to Collins Asea, the North West Nile Region Police spokesperson, the incident occurred on Sunday, 20 July 2025, at around 11:00 a.m. in Murowkodi, Cell 11, Central ward, Adjumani Town Council.

“Supporters of Ananzo were conducting a campaign consultation when they were attacked by individuals believed to be supporters of a rival candidate, Aben. The confrontation resulted in physical assaults and the malicious destruction of campaign materials,” Asea said.

Police say the victims immediately reported the matter, prompting a swift response from officers at Adjumani Police Station.

A total of seven suspects were apprehended in connection with the incident, and six remain in custody pending investigations.

“We condemn acts of political violence and urge all candidates and their supporters to maintain peace and adhere to the electoral guidelines,” Asea added.
