Police in the North West Nile region are holding five people in connection with illegal harvesting and transportation of forest products in Adjumani district.
According to the Police publicist for the North West Nile region, Collins Asea, officers from Adjumani Central Police Station, led by the District Police Commander (DPC), acted on credible information about the movement of a Fuso truck loaded with charcoal from Ofua and heading towards Pakelle town council.
He said police effectively mobilised and, under SD reference number 04/26/08/2025, intercepted the vehicle with registration number UBP 355S containing 90 bags of charcoal.
Asea said the suspects arrested include Samuel Muwonge, Fred Mugisha, Alex Kibirige, Asisa Glofa, and an individual only identified as Michael.
He alleged that the 90 bags of charcoal belong to Asisa Glofa, a notorious charcoal dealer in Adjumani, who is currently in custody at Adjumani Central Police Station.
