Meanwhile, related to what has been happening in the recent days, the talk of Speakership and Deputy Speakership has been ubiquitous. Earlier today, the CDF, who leads the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), announced that Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa — who deputised Among in the 11th Parliament — is the person tapped for the position of Deputy Speaker ahead of next Monday's elections.
Kainerugaba said this decision was as per the guidance from President Yoweri Museveni, who is the Commander-in-Chief.

CDF urges officials to 'cooperate' with security
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and the presidential advisor on special operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, says 'Operation Maliza Ufisadi' is only getting started.
Maliza and ufisadi are Kiswahili words meaning finish and corruption, respectively. Put together, it means the operation the CDF is referring to is one aimed at ending corruption. In his inauguration speech last Tuesday, President Yoweri Museveni declared that the 2026-2031 term is one of "no more sleep" and "no corruption".
In his message on social media platform X today, Kainerugaba says the ongoing operation has recovered "quite a lot of the people's money and property" and that "everything will be returned to the Treasury".
His advice to government officials is to "co-operate fully with the security services (...) to avoid arrest".

We welcome the probe — NUP's Ssenyonyi
Reporting by Simon Peter Tumwine at Makerere-Kavule:
Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, who is current Nakawa West MP and National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson, has welcomed the ongoing investigations into the embattled former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and other parliamentary officials.
"We have been talking about corruption but the various key stakeholders have been silent. I wrote to the former IGG, Beti Kamya, informing her about the corruption in Parliament but she kept promising to come to carry out investigations but nothing happened," he has told party members at the NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule.
"We welcome the investigations being conducted on Among and Parliament but we are not very happy because many thieves are still out there and need to be investigated and arrested."

Topsy-turvy seven days for Among
What began as a week of elation has gradually evolved into a forgettable one for the embattled former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among.
Exactly seven days ago, she appeared in jubilant mood as she and other top government leaders welcomed President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his inauguration at a filled Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Uganda's capital Kampala.
The following day, on Wednesday, Among and other elected members of the 12th Parliament were accompanied by their loved ones to take the oath of office for the 2026-2031 term.
But three days later, on Saturday, things changed.
At around 2:30pm, a fleet of over 15 police vehicles, vans, minibuses and pickup trucks pulled up at Among's Nakasero residence on Mackinnon Road. A truck sealed off the road and three uniformed officers took positions at the gate in this exclusive neighbourhood of Uganda's capital. Plain-clothed detectives fanned out across the plush compound, watching, waiting and cataloguing.
Scene of crime officers and forensic investigators moved through the property in a methodical, room-by-room sweep. Before dusk, black suitcases were seen being loaded onto a white police van and driven away.
What exactly was removed from Nakasero has not been fully confirmed, but sources said investigators had specifically suspected the existence of a hidden bunker inside the property where vast sums of cash had been stashed. Finger prints were lifted off money safes, document folders, electronic devices, doors and furniture, all aimed at establishing who had accessed the premises and when.
Documents recovered reportedly included bank statement, title deeds, contracts and correspondence. Every time removed was tagged and entered into an evidence register under strict chain-of-custody protocols. The operation was jointly conducted by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate, the Forensics Directorate and Crime Intelligence.
Inside Among's residences spread across Nakasero in Kampala and Kigo in Wakiso, investigators reportedly found what sources close to the investigation described as a trove of evidence that went well beyond anything previously made public.
Security also extended the probe to another residence in Ntinda, Nakawa. All residences have remained under tight security as inquiries continue.
