Security forces under the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) have successfully carried out a weeklong operation in Karamoja region. The operation has seen the recovery of two guns, the arrest of 11 suspects and the recovery of stolen livestock.

Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma on Monday, June 30, 2025, praised the ASTU team for its continued efforts to stabilise the sub-region.

“In the past week alone, our teams recovered two illegal firearms, 93 stolen cattle, and seven goats. They also arrested 11 cattle rustlers and impounded 455 jerrycans of illicit waragi,” Kituuma said.

He emphasised the danger posed by illegal firearms in the region, noting that each recovery removes a potential threat to lives and livelihoods.

“We are also cracking down on the sale and transportation of locally distilled alcohol that often fuels violence. This was evident in this operation,” he added.

This was during the weekly joint security briefing at Police headquarters in Kampala city.
