KAMPALA - Court has remanded a security guard and driver over theft of parliamentary properties.

Amiri Kamulegeya, also known as Musiramu, 35, a private security guard at Villa Park opposite Arena Mall in Nsambya, Kampala, was charged on Friday before City Hall court magistrate Edgar Karakire.

Kamulegeya was charged alongside a coaster driver, Farouk Balyejusa, a resident of Bata Bata in Namasuba along Entebbe road.

Prosecution alleges that  Kamulegeya, Balyejusa and others still at large between the month of June 2024 and March 2025 at Arena Mall in Nsambya, received an LG 32-inch television and a JBL loudspeaker, which are properties of the Parliament of Uganda.

The items were valued at over sh6m.

State Prosecutor Miria Grace Atike informed court that investigations into the matter were complete and requested for a hearing date.

She further requested court to issue a production warrant to another accused, Boaz Kule, who is on remand in Luzira over charges of breaking into Bank of Uganda and stealing laptops. A production warrant was accordingly issued.

The accused were charged with Office breaking, theft and receiving stolen property contrary to Section 294(1) and (2) of the Penal Code Act. The suspects allegedly stole the properties from the Parliamentary gym.

The accused denied the charges.

Magistrate Karakire informed the accused of their right to apply for bail if they have people to stand surety for them.

However, none of them had sureties, and they were remanded to Luzira prison up to June 18, 2026, for further hearing of the matter and bail application.
