MUKONO - Over 1,000 locals of Seeta Nazigo in Mukono district have received free health checkups and treatments during a one-day health camp organized by the Rotarians of Mukono Central.

According to their president, Moses Kafeero, the Rotarians decided to camp at Seeta Nazigo Health Centre III in Mukono district on Saturday with the intent to check and offer free treatment for noncommunicable diseases.

Some of the diseases checked during the camp included malaria, Cancer, Diabetes, and Stroke, among other services such as nutritional services, eye and ear checkups for both young and old.

Kafeero says the camp is also intended to help people improve their health standards as well as knowing their health statuses.

“We did not expect such a big turn, however, this is a sign that our people are sick and they need such services,” he says.

He explains that the services offered during the camp included free male circumcision, free HIV and counseling services, Nutrition services, ear and eye checkups, and antenatal services, Immunization, among others.

Kafeero says with the help of medical experts from Mukono, and Kampala have trained pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on proper feeding for their children to keep their bodies and their babies healthy.

“We have had pregnant mothers who skip antenatal visits because they lack information and through camps like these, also get a chance to speak to their husbands to support their women during such sensitive periods,” he says.

During the medical camp, they also carried out the groundbreaking for the waiting shelter at the maternity ward.

The District Health Officer, Dr. Stephen Mulindwa, said the entire district is appreciative for the kind support of Rotarians who have always supported health care in the region.

“The Waiting shelter facility, however, has come at the right time when expectant mothers used to wait from the verandah whenever they would come for services,” he says, adding that with the waiting facility, mothers will be able to receive counseling and other services before they get to meet the doctors.

Seeta Nazigo HC III is a public facility that provides primary health care services to people from within the area and its nearby communities.
