Remain ideologically upright and loyal, UPDF officers told at pass out

"You will now carry a trust that goes beyond yourself, be accountable and act responsibly with discipline and integrity because the resources you handle represent the taxpayers’ sacrifices, soldiers’ safety and the nation’s security," Byamukama said.

A total of 94 Uganda People’s Defence Officers (UPDF) have been cautioned to maintain the logistics code of ethics as they graduate in the Basic Stores Management Course.

The function held at the School of Supplies and Transport (SOST) Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja city on December 16, 2025, was presided over by UPDF deputy joint staff logistics Col. Arias Byamukama.

He said that as UPDF witnesses an important milestone in the professional journey, this also enhances efficiency and operational readiness.

“As you graduate, you are now officially in the ranks of professionals in the logistics function. Know that Logistics is the invisible engine that drives success. Battles are won at the frontline, but are sustained and enabled by the great work done by logisticians. Therefore, logistics directly affects what happens in the theatre of operations,”  Byamukama said.

He added: "You will now carry a trust that goes beyond yourself, be accountable and act responsibly with discipline and integrity because the resources you handle represent the taxpayers’ sacrifices, soldiers’ safety and the nation’s security".

Byamukama advised that a single mistake can lead to loss of lives and property, but a single act of diligence can save the mission.

He implored the graduands to go back to the units with confidence and apply the knowledge acquired from the training while adapting the principle of flexibility for the benefit of UPDF.

SOST commandant Col. JB Katongole said the course intake 17/25 of Basic Stores Management comprised 97 officers.

He added that the course included theory and practical lessons, guided study tours, and guest lectures, among others.

He urged the graduands to remain ideologically upright and loyal to the institution because the dedication and commitment during the course leaves us with no doubt that you are capable of delivering to the expectation.

He extended appreciation to the UPDF strategic leadership and the sister schools within Gadaffi Barracks that laid a hand and enabled the success of the course.

Sgt Joseph Lomer emerged as the best overall student, L/Cpl Jaspher Amanyire was the most disciplined during the course, while L/Cpl Margret Ainembabazi was the best female student.

Present at the function were representatives from the commandants of sister schools within Gadaffi Barracks, staff officers from Jinja cantonment, and directing staff from SOST, among others.
