Prison warder flees after shooting boss, two others dead in Kiboga

Uganda Prisons Services commissioner Dr Johnson Byabashaija has appealed to the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of warder Moses Anguyo, who allegedly shot dead three people in Kiboga Prison. 

Prisons spokesperson Frank Beine confirmed the shooting incident and said Anguyo shot dead Kiboga prison deputy officer in charge Catherine Hope, third in command Bright Akishuri and Sarah Ayebare, the spouse of the officer in charge. 

"The Commissioner General of Prisons regrets to announce the unfortunate death of three persons following a shooting incident at Kiboga Prison," Beine said. 

He revealed that the incident happened about 10:00am on February 23, 2026, when Anguyo opened fire on his supervisors, fatally shooting them and then fled the scene. 

"Police were immediately called in and secured the scene. Joint security operations are currently pursuing the suspect. Although the gun used in the shooting has been recovered, the suspect Warder Anguyo remains at large and is considered dangerous," Beine stated. 

He urged anyone with valuable information regarding his whereabouts is urged to inform the Police.
