President Museveni to meet garage owners, mechanics
President Museveni has intensified efforts towards wealth creation, particularly targeting the elimination of urban poverty by empowering groups such as mechanics and garage owners through various initiatives.

KAMPALA - President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to meet garage operators and mechanics operating within the Central Kampala Metropolitan area on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Hellen Seku, the Commissioner National Patriotism Corps (NSPC), has confirmed.
“For the last one month, I have been meeting mechanics from the five Divisions: Kawempe, Rubaga, Makindye, Nakawa and Central Kampala, discussing their challenges, and they requested to meet the President,” Seku remarked during a press conference on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
Seku, while speaking to the media, said the mechanics will discuss challenges of their work and will be enlightened on financial literacy and money matters.

She added, “Mechanics lack heavy working tools for their skills, that’s why they ask for President Museveni’s intervention.”

According to the government, garages are among the sectors employing hundreds of young people, particularly in the informal economy.
In Kampala alone, besides the over 200 recognised garages, several others operate informally, employing many young workers.
