President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni returned Wednesday from a three-day working visit to Egypt, where he and his host, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, committed to strengthening relations built on the River Nile, economic cooperation, and regional stability.

The two leaders held high-level talks in Cairo, stressing equitable sharing of Nile waters among Basin countries and reaffirming their countries’ decades-long Pan-African solidarity.

“Prosperity for all, electricity for all, irrigation for all, and clean drinking water for all,” President Museveni said, calling for science-based solutions to regional water use.

Trade and investment featured prominently in the discussions, with both leaders pledging to boost commerce beyond the current $133 million annual volume.

At the Egypt–Uganda Business Forum, Museveni urged Egyptian investors to inject capital and entrepreneurship into Uganda’s economy, citing opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, and value addition.

President El-Sisi described Uganda as “a main partner in the Nile Basin” and welcomed bilateral trade expansion.

The visit produced several memoranda of understanding covering governance, agriculture, rural transformation, water management, and investment promotion. Museveni also praised Egypt’s decision to set up a foot-and-mouth disease vaccine factory in Uganda.

Beyond economics, the leaders discussed regional flashpoints in Libya, Sudan, and Palestine, underscoring dialogue as the path to peace.
