KAMPALA - Police on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, said the territorial Police at Kabalagala are investigating a robbery and assault incident that occurred on December 27th, 2025, at Chezz Boss Mutoto Bar in Munyonyo, Kampala City.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, said preliminary investigations indicate that a group of suspects, allegedly led by one Shakibu Cham, a businessman operating in the Kasanga area, descended on patrons at the bar, assaulted them and robbed four victims of their mobile phones.
Shakib Cham is socialite Zari Hassan's husband. The couple had a private wedding in 2023.
"A case of robbery and assault has since been registered at Kabalagala Police Station, " Owoyesigyire said. He explained that a team of police investigators visited the scene and are working on identifying all individuals who participated in the attack.
"In the course of the investigations, one Shakibu has been summoned to report to Kabalagala Police Station to assist with ongoing inquiries," Owoyesigyire added.
He said police strongly condemn acts of violence and lawlessness and assured the public that investigations will be conducted to their logical conclusion to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice. He promised to share more details as investigations progress.
Shakib's response
When contacted over the summons, Shakib said he had seen the summons in the media, but had yet to report to the police station.
In a phone interview, Shakib explained that while there was a scuffle at the bar, he was not involved in any robbery.
"There was a scuffle in which Boss Mutoto (another socialite) and other guys were involved. I think there was a quarrel over a woman. I only got involved to stop the two groups from fighting," explained Shakib.
"I have known Boss Mutoto for a while, and I go to the restaurant often. He just likes the limelight, so he is using the incident to gain popularity," said Shakib.
Several attempts to get a comment from Boss Mutoto were futile as he said he was busy helping with police investigations.
