Police respond to viral Nsambya robbery video

The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) on June 9, 2026, responded to a viral video captured by its own CCTV camera showing a group of boda boda assailants attacking two victims on a motorcycle and allegedly robbing them of cash.

KMP deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the incident occurred on May 6, 2026, at the Nsambya traffic lights on Ggaba Road in Kampala at approximately 11:30am, and that police at Kabalagala division are investigating a robbery incident.

“The incident, whose video footage resurfaced on June 9, 2026, and is currently circulating on various social media platforms, involved a group of assailants who attacked two victims before robbing them of cash that had reportedly been withdrawn from a forex bureau,” Owoyesigyire said.

He said that upon receiving the initial report, police immediately commenced investigations.

“The crime scene was visited and documented, statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, CCTV footage was reviewed, and vital evidential material was recovered to support the ongoing inquiries. Efforts to identify, trace, and apprehend all the suspects involved are ongoing. We wish to reassure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Owoyesigyire added.

Police further urged members of the public who may have information that could assist investigations to share it with the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.
