The Uganda Police Force has reiterated its commitment to justice in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga, 62, who were killed at their home in Entebbe, Wakiso district, recently.
Addressing the media on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma provided an update on the investigation and responded to public concern and recent media reports on the progress of the case.
Kituuma said the individuals questioned so far in relation to the couple's murder, were subjected to a thorough investigative process, and those against whom there is no strong evidence have been released.
“The actual suspects are still at large, and the search is ongoing,” he added.
Bounty raised to sh60m
In a key development, Kituuma announced that the reward for credible information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators has been increased from shillings 50 million to shillings 60 million, following a directive from the Director of Criminal Investigations (CID).
“We call on anyone with reliable leads to come forward. All information will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality, and the informant’s safety will be fully guaranteed,” Kituuma said.
He noted that public co-operation remains a critical pillar in resolving such high-profile cases, particularly those with wide-reaching implications for community safety.
Speculative reporting
Kituuma also cautioned the media against unverified reporting that could derail investigations or mislead the public.
“We welcome scrutiny, but it must be fair and informed. Premature conclusions do not help investigations; they hinder them,” he said.
Details of the murder
The double homicide occurred in the early hours of July 6, 2025, at the couple’s residence in Lugonjo-Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe municipality. According to the Police, unknown assailants broke into the home and killed the couple in what is believed to have been an aggravated robbery.
The victims had reportedly only recently returned to Uganda from Europe, where they had lived for an extended period.
Their bodies were discovered by their shamba boy, Ronald Golooba, who notified the Police after suspecting a robbery had taken place. Responding officers found both victims dead inside the house, with the female victim partially undressed, suggesting a possible sexual motive or humiliation element.
Scene of crime observations
Investigators observed signs of forced entry at the residence. CCTV footage retrieved from the compound showed the assailants scaling the perimeter fence to gain access. A sniffer dog deployed to the scene lost the scent trail at the main gate, indicating that the attackers likely exited through that route.
Inside, the Police noted stab wounds on the left side below the breast on both bodies. There was also evidence of a shattered bedroom window and tampered roofing, indicating a violent entry near the master bedroom.
The scene was processed by the scenes of crime officer, and investigations are ongoing.
The Uganda Police has urged anyone with information related to the case to contact authorities immediately. A shillings 60 million reward remains on offer for credible information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
