Police in the Greater Masaka region have launched investigations into a fatal road crash that claimed two lives and left three others injured along the Kampala–Masaka highway in Kalungu district.
The accident occurred on April 4, 2026, at about 4:55 pm at Mukoko village, involving a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBL 152R, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UES 047C.
According to Twaha Kasirye, the police public relations officer for Greater Masaka (Masaka East and West), the crash resulted in the instant deaths of the motorcycle rider, Hassan Kiweewa, 56, and his passenger, Habiba Nassolo, 8.
“The three injured victims, all passengers on the motorcycle, were identified as Rayan Lujuma (8), Ratifa Namuwonge (9), while the other two were identified only as Nasali and Hayati (5). They were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment,” Kasirye said.
He added that the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the same hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem examinations.
The wreckage of both the motor vehicle and the motorcycle has since been towed and parked at Lukaya Police Station, awaiting inspection by traffic investigators.
Preliminary findings point to reckless driving by the driver of the Toyota Fielder as the likely cause of the crash, although police have not ruled out overloading on the part of the motorcycle rider as a contributing factor.
