Police are investigating a spate of grim deaths reported this year between March 22 and early April across different parts of the country, including the discovery of several unidentified bodies dumped in public spaces, suspected revenge killings, and cases of electrocution.

In just four days, five bodies were recovered in various Kampala suburbs, sparking alarm among residents and prompting police to intensify investigations.

On March 30, 2025, the body of 38-year-old Joseph Ssebagala was found in Kosovo zone, Salaama parish. He had sustained severe head injuries and was covered in blood. Police were alerted the next morning by a resident, Rose Katerega. A case of murder by assault was registered under Katwe CRB 683/25.

Five days earlier, the body of an unidentified woman was discovered by the roadside in Watuba, Kasangati, bearing a deep neck wound. The case is under reference SD 03/25/03/2025.

On March 22, the body of another unidentified male, believed to be in his 30s, was found dumped in a trench in Nakawa Division. No identification or personal items were found at the scene. That case is registered under SD 05/22/03/2025.

Additional fatalities reported in Kampala include a man fatally attacked in Nsambya West at around 12:30 am on March 31, and a hit-and-run victim discovered later that night in Kyebando on the Northern Bypass.

In Bushenyi district, police are probing a suspected revenge killing after four local security guards allegedly beat a man to death after he was accused of attempting to break into a shop in Ishaka Town.

The incident occurred at about 2:00 am on April 7 and was partially recorded by a witness, who was later chased away by the attackers.

The unidentified victim was reportedly dragged about 70 metres and savagely beaten with sticks and electric cables. Three individuals — Innocent Mwikirize, alias “Master”, and two others identified only as Hillary and Edson — have been implicated in the incident.

Meanwhile, in Busia district, police are investigating the death of 35-year-old Irene Nabwire, a housewife and resident of Masede village, who was found hanging in her home on the morning of April 7, 2025.

The discovery was made by her brother-in-law, Ronald Barasa, after her husband failed to reach her by phone. Police have since launched an investigation and now suspect foul play.

The body was taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for post-mortem examination as inquiries continue.

In the most recent incident, reported on Sunday, April 6, in Tororo district, a seven-year-old boy, John Jeremiah Onyango, was electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire in Station “A” Cell, Magodesi Town Council.

Onyango, a Primary One pupil at Magodesi Primary School, reportedly died instantly.

According to police, the wire had been connected illegally by a man identified as Moses Okitwi and another suspect, who remains unidentified. Both are currently on the run.

“Investigations confirmed there was an illegal power connection at the house, and the suspects tampered with the crime scene,” police officials said.

The child’s body was taken to Tororo Municipal Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
