Police officer arrested after shooting leaves four injured in Kwania bar

Police in Kwania District have launched an investigation into a case of attempted murder after a senior officer allegedly shot and injured four people during a bar quarrel in Aduku town council.
The case has been registered under reference Kwania CRB 319/2025.
According to a police report filed at 8:17am, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at about 5:00am at Bruno’s Bar and Night Club in Aduku Township cell, Teduka ward.
Police identified the suspect as Superintendent of Police (SP) Moses Muhindo, the Officer in Charge of Kwania Police Station and a resident of Alany Cell in Teduka Ward.
Investigators allege that he was inside the bar when he picked a quarrel with an unidentified person before drawing his pistol and firing several rounds, striking four bystanders.
The victims have been named as Lusano Alani, a 27-year-old peasant farmer from Aderolong village in Akali subcounty, who sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh; Jasper Oguta, 31, a peasant from Abwoch “B” village in Inomo subcounty, who was shot in the right leg just below the knee; Solomon Opio, 24, a casual labourer from Teduka cell in Aduku town council, who suffered a gunshot wound to the right heel; and Steven Obote, 24, a carpenter from Corner Police in Alany cell, Aduku town council, who was shot three times in the upper thigh, right leg, and left leg, leaving both of his legs broken.
The report indicates that the acting district CID officer, Tom Alfred Ocan, visited the scene together with homicide and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO).
The area was examined, photographed, and documented as part of the investigation, and statements were recorded from the injured victims.
All four victims were rushed to Aduku Health Centre IV before being referred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.
Police confirmed the recovery of the firearm used, a pistol with serial number UG POL 15-CN 022923 51648, which still contained four bullets in the magazine and one in the chamber. The weapon has been kept as an exhibit.
