Police impound illicit waragi, charcoal

The Police have seized two vehicles transporting illicit goods in separate enforcement operations.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 6:00 am, Police at Kabei checkpoint intercepted a white Isuzu vehicle, registration number UBP 711P, loaded with 30 jerrycans of illicit waragi.

According to Mt Moroto/ASTU Police spokesperson Mike Longole, the vehicle was owned by Mutai Moses, a 38-year-old businessman from Bukwo District, who was arrested and transferred to Bukwo Central Police Station for further investigations.

Charcoal smuggling in Katakwi

In a separate incident, Police at Getom checkpoint, Katakwi, impounded a vehicle, registration number UAT 511YA, carrying 120 bags of charcoal destined for Mbale.

The truck belongs to Ali Lochol, a Karamojong, but the driver managed to escape. Authorities are working to tow the vehicle to Katakwi Central Police Station for further action.

“These operations show our commitment to enforcing regulations on illicit trade and environmental conservation,” police stated.

The public is urged to report any suspicious activities related to illegal trade.
