The Uganda Police have eulogised their human rights and legal services director, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Charles Kataratambi, who passed away on October 2 at Nakasero Hospital.

Addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, on Monday, October 6, 2025, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma described the late senior officer as a man of intellect, integrity and deep commitment to service.

“Charles was a lawyer by training, an officer with immense intellectual prowess, and one who devoted himself fully to duty. We shall miss him dearly as the Police fraternity and the wider family of friends and colleagues.”

Kituuma, during the joint weekly media briefing, said a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 10, at 9:00am at Watoto Church in Kampala, followed by burial on Saturday at his ancestral home in Mbarara.

“We wish him eternal repose,” Kituuma said.

Kataratambi returned to active service in 2024 after nearly nine years away from the force, when President Yoweri Museveni appointed Abas Byakagaba as Inspector General of Police.

He was subsequently assigned to head the Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services, a role in which he was instrumental in promoting rights-based policing within the institution.

The late officer was a respected career Police commander who previously held several senior positions within the Uganda Police Force.

His colleagues described him as a disciplined officer and a professional who brought integrity to every office he occupied.
