KAMPALA - The police in Kampala report that two bodaboda cyclists have been arrested in connection with the recent robbery of sh91m from a Congolese businesswoman.
Police say the suspects were part of a gang that on March 10, 2025, closely monitored a Congolese national identified as Justine who was carrying the money in a small bag.
It is said that Justin a resident of Makindye, Kampala suburbs was attacked near Senana Supermarket junction along Buganda Road in Kampala City.
The police say detectives using CCTV surveillance cameras nabbed the suspects in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb.
They were identified as: Samuel Kalema, 21, of Kawempe, and Asumani Mwima, 26, from Kasangati.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango, the robbers, following the victim on foot were joined by another group of boda boda cyclists.
The gang kicked the woman and grabbed her bag, fleeing towards Wandegeya with the loot.
It is not yet clear why the woman was carrying big cash in a bag and walking on the streets without a security escort.
The police were yet to give details on the source of the money and the destination of the victim.
According to Onyango, the suspects confessed to the crime and assisted the police to recover some of the exhibits including money.
Onyango did not specify how much money had been recovered but sources indicated that several other suspects that shared the loot were still on the run.
He said the two suspects who were being detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala would be produced in court next week as the hunt for others continued.
