KAMPALA - The Regional Police Commander in charge of traffic in Kampala, Bruce Oinebye, has asked bodaboda riders to co-operate with efforts aimed at organising their business, saying motorcycle accidents are on a rise in the country.
“Last year we lost 390 riders and 558 passengers to bodaboda accidents. These were aged between 18 and 45 years. In Uganda we lose 14 riders daily,” he said.
Although COVID-19 killed about 350 people in Uganda, those who died of bodaboda accidents were more," Oinebye said.

He added that the bodaboda business is good because it employs people, especially the youth.
"We, therefore, need to organise the business so that we can reduce the mortality rate," he said, urging bodaboda riders to train and get permits, wear a reflector for visibility, wear a helmet and stop speeding.
