Patriotism headlines national youth convention

KYANKWANZI - President Yoweri Museveni is on September 17, 2024, expected to preside over this year’s national youth convention.

The event organised by the Uganda Christian Lawyers’ Fraternity (UCLF) and Uganda Youth Forum (UYF) is set to take place at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi district.

During the event, Museveni, alongside First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni, will give a keynote address on patriotism.

Other event speakers lined up for the event include Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Supreme Court judge Mike Chibita and Mrs Museveni's personal private secretary Irene Kauma. Also expected to give talks are UYF chairperson board of directors Dr James Magara and UCLF president Anne Muhairwe.

Addressing a press conference at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on September 16, 2024, UYF executive director Leonard Imanishimwe said the convention participants will engage in a variety of activities, workshops, and discussions aimed at developing their leadership skills, fostering a sense of loyalty, and understanding the importance of staying steadfast in their values and goals.

“The 7th Youth Convention will build on the gains of the previous six youth conventions,” he said, adding that the event will be held under the theme: "Cultivating a patriotic Heart for a prosperous nation".

He said the 10-day event will bring together over 350 youth for the physical convention while there will also be a provision for online audiences via YouTube.

The event is designed to instil principles of loyalty, steadfastness, and commitment both to self and to the betterment of the nation.

It also aims to empower the youth to lead healthy, productive and transformed lives in the 21st century through enhanced patriotism and positive mindset change and character development among the youth.

It also aims to strengthen the capacity for youth participation in community service and national transformation enhance a sense of responsibility among the youth and tackle the adverse effects of the corrosive culture of materialism, get rich-quick and self-entitlement among the youth.
