More than 800 shortlisted candidates for the positions of prison warders and wardresses turned up on Monday for oral and written interviews.

According to Alex Ben Simon Wansadha, the Commissioner of Prisons in charge of Safety and Security, the interviews will run from Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16 2025, beginning at exactly 9am each day.

The recruitment drive, which was advertised both online and in print media, drew applicants from various districts, including Kapelebyong, Soroti District, Soroti City, Bukedea, Serere, Kumi, Ngora, Kaberamaido, and Kalaki, among others.

For the Teso region, interviews are being conducted at Soroti Sports Ground, while recruitment centres for the Karamoja region are in Moroto and Kotido.

Wansadha noted that the key qualification for shortlisting was a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least four credits, specifically in English and Mathematics.

He also cautioned applicants against offering bribes, stressing that the selection process is being managed strictly by the Prisons Headquarters and will remain free and fair.
