At least 56 babies were born on Christmas Day at Kawempe National Referral Hospital, bringing joy to the families and health workers as the world celebrated the birthday of Jesus Christ.
Hospital executive director Dr Emmanuel Byaruhanga revealed that 25 of the babies were male, while 31 were females.
“We thank God that we didn’t register any death. I, therefore, thank the health workers and the staff for the job well done,” Byaruhanga said.
He added that 32 were normal deliveries, while 22 were by caesarean sections.
“We received 71 admissions on Christmas Day and we had 54 deliveries resulting in the birth of 56 babies with two sets of twins. This means that some didn’t deliver on the Christmas Day for one reason or the other because some mothers receive false pregnancies,” Byaruhanga said.
Having been born on Christmas Day, Byaruhanga said he shares joy with the babies.
A child born on Christmas Day feels incredibly special and magical for many parents, bringing unique joy and aligning with holiday themes of hope.
Dr Byaruhanga said they also had eight surgeries for other pregnancy-related complications and six abortions due to complications.
“We thank God that all were successful,” Dr Byaruhanga said.
