LAMWO - A total of 33 market vendors from Palabek Kal town council are nursing injuries at Kitgum government hospital after the driver of the vehicle they were travelling by from the market day in Paluda trading centre lost control and overturned.

The incident happened on December 9, 2024, at around 7:18pm in Palabek Ogili sub-county along Palabek Ogili- Paluda road where a Fuso fighter lorry with registration number UAR 221X belonging to Crown beverage (Pepsi) company driven by Joel Okot, a resident of Palabek Kal town council in Lamwo district.

It is alleged that the vehicle was from Palabek Ogili market ferrying market vendors with merchandise heading to Palabek Kal.

But, shortly after 700 meters away from the market square, the vehicle veered off the road after the driver failed to negotiate a pothole.   

According to police, the cause of the crash was suspected dangerous mechanical condition of the vehicle due to rotten angle lines of the tray.

All injured victims were rushed to Palabek Ogili Health Center III and later referred to Kitgum Government Hospital by ambulances from the district.

Oloya said the Fuso Fighter lorry was driven to Palabek Kal police station pending Inspector of Vehicles' inspection, however, the tray remained behind pending towering as it needed a crane.

“We urge the public to use the road well before, during and after this festive season. Drivers should be checking on their vehicles before carrying people”, he warned.
Meanwhile, Police in Lamwo district has arrested two South Sudan nationals over a woman who was knocked dead by a truck.

The incident happened on December 8, 2024, at around 9:00pm at Block 4B Zone 4 at Palabek refugee settlement in Palabek Ogili sub-county, Lamwo district.
