The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) on August 22, 2025, passed out 1,020 personnel from the School of Artillery and Air Defence (SAAD) after completing intensive training in Morulinga Village, Olilim subcounty, Katakwi district.
Maj. Gen. Dan Kakono, Commander of the Artillery Division, who represented the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, praised the graduates for their endurance, discipline and commitment.
"Building an army involves training. The UPDF of the future depends on how you, the young officers, take your training seriously," he said.
In a statement, the army said Maj. Gen. Kakono urged the officers to uphold professionalism, responsibility and patriotism, reminding them that the country’s investment in their training was a sign of trust placed in them to defend Uganda.
"Countries without the capacity to defend themselves are easily swallowed up. We live in a practical world of self-defence," he added, while also appreciating the local community for supporting the school.
