Orthodox Christians set for Mbonabingi’s episcopal consecration

This has been revealed by the Parish priest of St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral Namungoona, the Very Rev Fr Nicholas Bayego during the Divine Liturgy at the church (in Rubaga Division) on Sunday (March 31, 2024).

The Rt Rev Constantine Mbonabingi, the Ugandan Orthodox Archimandrite who was recently elected as the first Bishop of Juba and All South Sudan will be consecrated in Alexandria (Egypt) on April 7, 2024.

The function will be presided over by the Orthodox Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Holiness Tawadros II.

This has been revealed by the Parish priest of St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral Namungoona, the Very Rev Fr Nicholas Bayego during the Divine Liturgy at the church (in Rubaga Division) on Sunday (March 31, 2024).

Bayego asked the Orthodox faithful to make the necessary preparations to give Mbonabingi a befitting farewell and also, to grace his episcopal consecration function.

Archimandrite Mbonabingi thanked the Orthodox Christians for nurturing, loving, and supporting him in his sacerdotal ministry. He asked them to remain in solidarity with him as he embarked on his new ministry.

“I may say I am going to the unknown. One thing I know is, things there are not very easy there. I need people to work with; catechists, priests, and musical ministers. Please come and work with me to spread God’s Kingdom,” Mbonabingi said.

Mbonabingi will leave Uganda for Alexandria on Saturday (April 6) ahead of his consecration on Sunday (April 7, 2024). He will then return to Uganda on April 10 before going to Juba for his installation which will take place at St. Stylianos Cathedral (Juba) on (Sunday) April 14, 2024.
