Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Michael Ondoga has assumed office as the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) coordinator for the West Nile sub-region, in a ceremony held at the OWC headquarters in Kamwokya.

The handover event, which took place on July 22, 2025, was officiated by Brig. Gen. Godfrey Muwanguzi, deputy chief coordinator of OWC, who congratulated Ondoga on his appointment and reaffirmed the institution’s full support as he undertakes his new mandate.

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, in a statement, said Brig. Gen. Muwanguzi also took the opportunity to acknowledge the service of the outgoing coordinator, Lt Col (Rtd) Bart Angumi, commending him for his commitment and dedication.

In his remarks, Ondoga extended his gratitude to Gen. (Rtd) Caleb Akandwanaho, chief coordinator of OWC, for the confidence entrusted to him. He vowed to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s continued journey of social and economic transformation. “I am grateful for the trust placed in me by Gen (Rtd) Akandwanaho. I look forward to building on the work already done and supporting Uganda’s transformation agenda,” said Ondoga.

Lt Col (Rtd) Angumi, in his parting address, thanked the OWC leadership and staff for their cooperation and support during his service as regional coordinator.

Also present at the ceremony were OWC chief staff officer Brig. Gen. James Kaija and department heads from across OWC.

OWC was launched by President Yoweri Museveni in July 2013 as an intervention to efficiently facilitate national socio-economic transformation, with a focus on raising household incomes and wealth creation by transforming subsistence farmers into commercial farmers to end poverty.

This followed the successful implementation, with tangible outcomes, of the pilot programme launched to support civilian veterans in the “Luwero-Rwenzori Triangle”.
