Armed soldiers from the South Sudan People's Defence Forces have again invaded a village located one kilometer inside Uganda, burning down several houses.
Lieutenant Nasser Mene, the UPDF Public information officer for West Nile Region, who confirmed the latest development to Vision Group’s Arua One FM, adds that the attack on Komurofe Village in Munducaku Parish in Kochi Sub-County led to the destruction of seven houses and displacement of residents.
The early morning attack, on Friday, August 8th 2025, followed heavy deployment by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces in the neighbouring Fitina Mbaya Village, in the same Parish and sub-county, which came under similar attacks by elements from the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) about three weeks ago.
Lieutenant Mene, however, revealed that there were no casualties in the Friday attack because UPDF forces deployed to guard the neighbouring Fitina Mbaya immediately rushed to restore sanity in the neighbouring Komuro’ife Village, where the latest attack took place.
The recent episode of insecurity in the area started on July 28, 2025, after the South Sudanese Soldiers established a military detach in Fitina Mbaya Village, Munduchaku parish, Kochi sub-county, Yumbe district, an Area Ugandan authorities say is about 2 Kilometers inside Uganda.
After the Invasion, UPDF moved to the disputed Area, hoping to convince the South Sudanese soldiers to go back to their original base, but the South Sudanese Soldiers Reportedly Opened fire, killing a UPDF soldier and injuring two others.
UPDF also responded with fire and put out of action four South Sudanese Soldiers.
The rest of the soldiers fled back to their country after the response from the UPDF.
Later on, armed civilians believed to be from the neighbouring Kuku Tribe in KajoKeji also invaded the area and abducted four Ugandans.
One of the abductees was discovered dead the next day.
Five years ago, South Sudanese Government soldiers invaded the same area, on a looting spree.
They looted property, including cash and cattle, claiming that the ransacked villages belonged to South Sudan.
Following the Public Outcry, the UPDF Soldiers launched a counterattack, shooting dead four of the raiders.
This prompted a team from South Sudan led by S. Sudan Military Attache to Uganda, and a Ugandan delegation led by the West Nile Brigade Commander, to visit the scene, where both officials agreed to ensure that they take full control and command of their soldiers and to improve communication and encourage residents to report any incidents in their area.

South Sudan government also pledged to stop its troops from entering and destabilising Ugandans in Fitina Mbaya and also return all the property and money looted from Ugandans in Goboro in Yumbe district.
There have been appeals for the two heads of state, President Yoweri Museveni, and Salva Kiir, to engage and discuss ways of ending these episodes of violence over the Border Dispute, as the two countries largely enjoy a cordial relationship and cooperate in many fronts.
