The newly constructed Judiciary Supreme Court and Court of Appeal building being commissioned today (Thursday 18th) in Kampala city will save government sh6bn annually.  

According to the Permanent secretary to the Judiciary Pius Bigirimana, the money has hitherto been spent on hiring conference halls for meetings, conferences among other expenses. Bigirimana said that the new building has a big conference hall, parking space for 226 vehicles.

He gave the brief, while welcoming President Yoweri Museveni who had arrived at the venue to commission the newly constructed buildings based at City Square.

In attendance is Former Vice President Edward Sekandi, retired Chief Justices Bart Katureebe, Justice Benjamin Odoki, Defense Minister Jacob Oboth, former Principal Judge Alice Mpagi the legal fraternity and its leadership, Members of Parliament among others.

Facilities at the new buildings include: innovation centers, breastfeeding rooms, mediation rooms, IT rooms, play centers for children, boardrooms among others, all these will enable dispensing of justice more efficiently.

The building also has facilities that will cater for people with special needs like the disabled, added deputy Chief Justices Richard Buteera. It took four years for the building to be completed.
