The senior management committee of the Judiciary has formally bid farewell to Justices Flavia Nabakooza and Amos Kwizera. The duo previously served as part of the committee before their elevation as Judges of the High Court.

Speaking at the farewell on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, Judiciary Permanent Secretary Dr Pius Bigirimana congratulated the judges saying he was confident of their capacity to deliver in their new roles.

“Promotion brings both recognition and challenges,” Bigirimana said.

He added that being a judicial officer is a calling, urging the judges to maintain public confidence. He also expressed his wish to see more registrars ascending to judgeship.

Judiciary chief registrar Sarah Langa Siu congratulated the new acting judges and thanked God for their elevation.

Reflecting on their previous roles, she thanked them for their contributions before becoming judges, affirming that their elevation is well-deserved.

She encouraged them to continue shining and wished them the best, praying for their confirmation from acting judges.

Justice Nabakooza thanked the committee for the invitation and the chief registrar for nurturing support. She also appreciated the teamwork of her former colleagues and thanked Bigirimana for providing her with a new vehicle.

Justice Kwizera expressed gratitude for the invitation and remarked: “It is heartwarming to know that where we [have] left, people have fond memories of us”.

He extended thanks to the judicial officers present, emphasising the valuable management skills he gained through working with senior management.

Justice Kwizera also pledged to work diligently and encouraged open communication regarding negative feedback. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the permanent secretary for providing them (new judges) with new vehicles.

The ceremony climaxed with cutting cake and awarding of certificates of recognition to the newly appointed acting judges.
