The Uganda Premier League title race continued to heat up as NEC defeated BUL 1-0 at Lugogo on Wednesday.

BUL came into the game to leapfrog Kitara at the top of the table standings, unfortunately, they didn't achieve that.

The result saw BUL remain third with 46 points just like second-placed Vipers, while Kitara is top with 47 points. NEC who picked up a crucial victory came fourth with 43 points, one above fifth-placed SC Villa.

NEC coach Hussein Mbalangu revealed that they came prepared for any challenge their opponents throw at them.

"We didn't want to give them a chance. Indeed my players have executed the plan very well. We only thought we should have scored more if some of our chances were put to use. But we shall build from this in our next games," noted Mbalangu.

BUL who had their head coach Abbey Kikomeko sent off were to blame after they missed several scoring opportunities.

The Jinja-based side needs to regroup.

Their assistant coach James Magala feels they didn't deserve to walk away without a point.

"I think we played well, especially in the second half. We failed to utilize our chances. But that's football we shall regroup again," noted Magala.

The two sides will meet again in the semifinal first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Sunday at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru and thereafter the return leg at Lugogo on May 4.
