JINJA - A total of 993 older persons aged 80 years and above are set to receive their quarterly lump sum of sh75,000 under the Government's Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) programme in Jinja city.
According to Olivia Tamubula, a senior community development officer and focal person for older persons in Jinja city, the monthly stipend of sh25,000 covers three months, April, May and June.
Tamubula said they had drawn up a schedule to distribute about sh74.5m to beneficiaries at designated points during an exercise that kicks off Monday, August 10.
The five-day exercise will commence in Jinja City Northern Division, with beneficiaries drawn from the seven wards of Kibibi, Namizi, Kabowa-Kampala and Kabowa trading centre, including Buyala A, B and C, all located in Budondo.
The team will later in the afternoon camp at the Budondo headquarters offices to clear beneficiaries from Namizi Central, East and West, Buyala trading centre and Ivunmba, all located in Namizi ward.
The exercise will take four days as officials attend to beneficiaries in Jinja City Northern Division.
On Friday, August 15, they will turn to Jinja City Southern Division, starting with Jinja Central, Kimaka and Mpumudde in the morning.
They will conclude in Walukuba/Masese, which boasts three islands, Rwabitooke, Kisima I and Kisima II.
The majority of the older persons live alone or with grandchildren and use the money to cater for basic needs such as medical care, food, clothing and bedding, among others.
