The developers of Nakivubo stadium continue to work towards delivering a first-class facility as they have always promised if the current installations are anything to go by.

The latest images from the refurbished stadium show completed work on the technical benches which are now in place, including fixed seats in the VIP and VVIP boxes.

There are 40 VIP boxes all of which have been fixed with seats, with almost 85 percent of work on them now complete.

Even the pessimists who have continued to dismiss the works as substandard on various online platforms will soon run out of excuses as the refurbishment nears completion with every amenity in place.

According to the structural engineer of the stadium Ivan Ssewankambo, they are also done with works on the perimeter fence and the demarcations for the netball and basketball courts which are located on either side of the curves of the football pitch.

“We are currently working on their bases. We are also finalizing works on the dressing rooms, covering the drainage channel and the mounting of the floodlights,” Ssewankambo said.

“The towers for the floodlights are also now up following the fabrication, election, and fixing meaning 80 percent of that work is also complete, and what remains is the mounting of the floodlights,”

The floodlights just like the turf were also procured from a Turkish company, Phoenix, though the steel bars used were bought from Uganda.

“Most of the materials were imported from Turkey because they are the people who have FIFA-approved licenses for some of these installations. These are minor installations but the bigger job has been done by Ugandans,” Ssewankambo noted.

“It is only the turf, the seats including those in the executive boxes including those that installed the turf that came from outside and joined our team,”

Lemo, a Swiss-based FIFA-licensed company in goal-line technology installation also visited and will return with a layout having gone back with the designs of the stadium.

“We wait for their preliminary designs so that we can add provisions for the conduits so that by the time we start installing cables for the goal line technology, they can return and inspect the work. They are also going to give us the standard dimensions for the VAR room so that we can set it as well,” Ssewankambo stated earlier.
