Police in Nakasongola district are investigating a tragic case of murder and suspicious death that rocked Kinoni Trading Centre in Katugo Town Council on April 25, 2025.

According to Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, the incident, which occurred at about 11:30 pm, was reported to authorities the following day at midday.

The deceased were identified as Ritah Charity Mbabazi, a 30-year-old businesswoman and resident of Kinoni Trading Centre, and her husband, Patrick Ndibadawa, aged 44, a cattle trader who also lived in the same area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been married and shared two children.

However, in January this year, the relationship deteriorated following serious marital misunderstandings.

As a result, Mbabazi moved out and began living independently with their children while operating a small bar within the trading centre.

“It is alleged that on the day of the incident, Mbabazi reported a case of domestic violence and failure to provide for the family against her husband,” Twiineamazima said.

“The suspect was immediately summoned through the area LC1 chairman, who delivered the summons to him.”

Later that night, police at Katugo Police Station received a distress call from a concerned resident reporting that Mbabazi had been hacked to death by her husband at Kinoni Trading Centre.

The caller further indicated that Ndibadawa had subsequently been found dead, hanging from a tree, under suspicious circumstances.

Police officers swiftly responded to the scene, where they found both bodies. The scene was cordoned off and documented by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO).

“We registered a case of suspected murder by hacking and recorded statements from relevant witnesses,” Twiineamazima stated.

The bodies were conveyed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for post-mortem examinations to establish the exact causes of death.

Investigators also recovered a blood-stained panga, suspected to have been used in the attack, from the crime scene, which has since been exhibited as evidence.

Twiineamazima noted that inquiries into the matter are ongoing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
