Boda boda riders in Gulu city have raised concern over increasing cases of armed motorcycle robberies allegedly carried out by unknown gunmen.
The attacks, which reportedly began in March, have continued for the past three months, leaving many riders living in fear.
The chairperson of Gulu West City Boda-Boda Riders’ Association, Emmy Ocen, said 16 riders have fallen victim to the robberies.
According to Ocen, four riders have been killed, while all 16 motorcycles stolen during the attacks remain unrecovered.
He urged members of the public to report anyone suspected of illegally possessing firearms to security agencies.
He also advised boda boda riders to remain cautious by avoiding high-risk areas, limiting movements during late hours and staying vigilant while carrying out their work.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Gulu East City Boda-Boda Riders’ Association, Moses Ojok, said records from the association indicate that 41 motorcycles have been stolen in his area.
Of these, only 22 have been recovered, leaving many riders counting heavy losses.
Ojok further said preliminary findings from the association’s investigations suggest that suspected robbers may be using an unidentified woman as bait to lure boda boda riders before stealing their motorcycles.
He added that the association has obtained a photograph of the suspected woman and shared it with relevant security authorities to support ongoing investigations.
