The disappearance of a Lira city-based comedian has taken a dramatic political twist, with Police investigations now unfolding alongside sharp exchanges between rival political camps as the city heads into a tense election period.

According to North Kyoga region Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema, the territorial Police at Lira city east division are investigating a case of disappearance reported earlier this week.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on January 4, 2026, at an unknown time in Ireda Shamba cell, Lira city east division. The matter was formally reported to the Police on January 5, 2026, at about 1:04pm by Monica Adong, 34, a businesswoman and resident of Anywalonino Cell, Lira City West Division.

The missing person has been identified as Solomon Odyek, also known as Ajoka Alango, 33, a comedian and a resident of Ireda Shamba cell.

Preliminary Police findings indicate that on the morning of January 5, at about 8:00am, neighbours found Odyek’s house wide open, with the door curtain pulled down. The house was in disarray, suggesting a possible struggle, but the occupant was nowhere to be seen.

Efforts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful, as his known mobile line was unavailable. Police say several items were missing from the house, including a mobile phone, woofer, laptop and camera stand.

Police officers visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from the complainant and neighbours, introduced a Police sniffer dog, and conducted a search within and around the premises.

During the search, officers recovered two finger rings and two unidentified mobile phones: A smartphone and a Techno feature phone without a battery or SIM cards, which have been retained to aid investigations.

Okema said investigations are ongoing, with particular emphasis on tracking the stolen mobile phone and laptop to establish Odyek’s whereabouts and identify those involved. Police have appealed for calm and urged anyone with information to share it discreetly with investigators.

Police urge restraint

Okema cautioned the public against drawing conclusions, noting that the country is in a heated political season after counteraccusations from different political camps over the disappearance of the comedian.

“People should understand that this is a political period, and allegations will increase as polling day approaches,” he said.

“Police will rely on facts, not propaganda, to establish the truth.”
