MARACHA - President Yoweri Museveni has condoled with the widow of Richard Laus Angualia, a former diplomat to Egypt and the Middle East.

Angulia, who was buried at Ombadri village, Nyadiri south sub-county in Maracha district on August 2, 2025, died in a motorcycle crash after a head-on collision on the Manibe-Terego road near Abi Zardi Farm in Arua city on July 29, 2025, evening. Angualia was reportedly returning from a farm.

He was a father to seven children, one died, and now is survived by six children and a widow.

While reading President Museveni’s condolence message to hundreds of mourners, National Resistance Movement (NRM) party finance director Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale handed over a support of shillings 10 million to the widow from the head of state, with additional shillings one million from herself.

The NRM secretariat extended support of shillings five million, through the commissioner Zaitun Driwaru, who represented NRM Secretary General at the burial.
Museveni said the late Angualia was a leader who understood the true role of leadership both at local and national level.

“We consider responsible leadership as one which is able to diagnose the challenges of society and correct them. A leader must be a change agent and transform society; late Angualia lived to the task.”

Museveni recognised the contribution of Angualia to the development of social economic transformation of Uganda. He has departed from us after distinguished service to this country.

Medina appealed to leaders in West Nile to desist from petty fights but unite to lobby the government for better development.

She challenged the leaders to ensure the people benefit from government programmes like the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, GROW, youth livelihood and UWEP to fight poverty.

Meanwhile, NRM secretariat commissioner Zaitun Driwaru expressed disappointment over people who still bring down their own from West Nile to ruin their future.

Driwaru tasked West Nile leaders to take responsibility and ensure the region develops. She says, NRM secretariat will take the lead in restoring peace.
