KABERAMAIDO - A number of residents in Kaberamaido district who turned up to celebrate the inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni applauded the continuation of his leadership as he was sworn in on Tuesday.

Museveni was sworn into office at a colourful ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

Several newly elected leaders at the subcounty and district levels attended the ceremony held at Kaberamaido town council grounds on May 12, 2026.

The function in Kaberamaido was characterised by a general march through the streets of the town and performances by artists singing songs praising what the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has done for the people.

The district NRM registrar, Isaac Ojade, said Kaberamaido district voted better this time compared to previous years and that it was right for residents to join the rest of Uganda in celebrating President Museveni’s swearing-in for a seventh term.

He said Kaberamaido gave President Museveni 80.60% of the January 15, 2026, vote, more than in any previous election.

Meanwhile, NRM supporters used the occasion to submit some of the key requests they expect President Museveni to fulfil as he begins his seventh term.

The LC1 chairperson of Ararak ‘A’ cell in Kaberamaido town council, Moses Opeche, said residents want the Katine-Kalaki-Ochero road to be tarmacked.

“We have talked about this road several times. We are very hopeful that it will be worked on during this term,” Opeche said.

Meanwhile, Richard Agei from Acanpi in Kaberamaido subcounty said residents are in need of a municipality.

He said upgrading Kaberamaido town council to municipality status would spur development in the area.

He added that roads within the municipality would likely be tarmacked, which he said is common government practice.

“We need a municipality. Our leaders have already prepared documents, and if granted, better services will reach,” Agei said.

Meanwhile, Florence Anyao said residents want Ochero Health Centre III upgraded to a health centre IV.

“Since Ochero is already a constituency, we need a health centre IV such that there is improvement in health services.”

She said Ochero HCIII currently serves people from Amolatar and Dokolo districts and that upgrading it to HCIV status would improve service delivery.

Among the programmes praised by residents for benefiting the people were the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, GROW project for women, Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), and the recently introduced Bukungu-Kaberamaido-Kagwara ferry, among others.

President Museveni was also praised for maintaining peace and security in the country.

However, the NRM administrative secretary, Peter Ekadu, together with registrar Isaac Ojade, said some of the concerns raised by residents had already been presented to Museveni in a memorandum during his campaign visit to the district.

Ekadu said they expect local leaders to follow up on the concerns raised by residents.

He noted that Oriamo, Okile, Kaberamaido and Ochero were the only sub-counties without a Health Centre III. He also said Okile Sub-county was now the only sub-county without a government secondary school.

Given the situation in those sub-counties, he said, residents expect President Museveni’s seventh term to address the concerns.

Ekadu also said the issue of animal compensation should be handled properly so that voters are not disappointed.

“We used the issue of cattle compensation to get votes, and the matter should be handled to favour everyone,” Ekadu said.
