"I would like to express my gratitude to the children who used the government's support to study and succeed," he said.

President Museveni says "the memory of Joan Kagezi lives on because we remember her. She died while doing a good thing, just like Jesus died over 2000 years ago and we still remember Him".

"This will ensure that people are not afraid to fight for their country. If we fail to do so, we will be undermining the patriotism of those comrades," the President later posted on his X, formerly Twitter, handle.

Beacon of justice

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among on the same occasion also praised Kagezi, as having been a beacon of justice, a guardian of the rule of law, and a fearless warrior who diligently handled very serious cases before her assassination in 2015.

Since 2016, ODPP has been holding an annual memorial lecture in recognition of Kagezi’s contribution in the fight against organised crime in the country.

Four men: Daniel Kisekka Kiwanuka, John Kibuuka alias Musa, John Massajjage alias Badru alias Chongo and Nasur Abdallah Mugonole have since been charged over her murder in cold blood.

The four were last month committed to the High Court to stand trial over the heinous crime.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo says based on the evidence they have collected, they are confident as prosecution that they have the right people.
