MUKONO - Police have recovered the headless body of a 25-year-old woman in Mukono district and arrested her ex-boyfriend along with two suspected accomplices in what investigators believe was a ritual killing.

The deceased, identified as Jacqueline Nyawedde, a resident of Namawojjolo in Mukono, was reported missing on April 27, 2025, after failing to return home.

The last person she contacted was her former partner, Abu Mayengo, aged 28.

“Based on this lead, police arrested Mayengo and his two suspected accomplices—Mubarak Kizito, 34, a traditional healer, and Jonas Bakabulindi, 28,” said Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Monday.

A search at Mayengo’s residence led to the recovery of the victim’s phone and a human head wrapped in cloth. A headless body was subsequently discovered buried in a nearby garden.

The recovered body parts were taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for forensic analysis. The scene has been documented, and investigations are ongoing.

Foiled robbery

In a separate intelligence-led operation on May 4, 2025, police thwarted a robbery attempt targeting Ponda Company Limited, a firm dealing in frozen meat products.

After receiving intelligence of a planned break-in shortly after midnight, police set up an ambush near the company’s premises.

Around noon, they intercepted four suspects attempting to break into the warehouse using a white NOIR vehicle bearing registration number UAS 738W. The number plates had been deliberately obscured.

“The suspects were apprehended and are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station pending arraignment in court,” Onyango said.
