Kampala Central division Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko on Sunday, May 5, watered down musicians' efforts towards pushing for an amendment copyright law.

Speaking during an intellectual property conference held at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Kololo, a Kampala suburb, he said: "you hear some of these musicians arrogantly speaking, without knowledge, about what they call their copyright."

Nsereko went ahead to question most of the musicians who push for payment from media outlets that play their music, saying, "is your music worth paying for?"

Amid the heated debates and back-and-forth discussions therein, concerning the law, Nsereko advised that musicians need to be educated about what they are advocating for, saying the reasons they front for having the law amended are baseless and shallow.

"You hear some of them saying they need the law because they sing about pertinent topics like love. Love has been sung about since time immemorial. There is nothing new from these musicians," he stated.

From the surface, creatives believe that with an amendment law, they will be able to earn a lot more money from their artistic creations.

Late  April, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka revealed to Parliament that the Copyright law was still under review in cabinet and that it had been made a priority.
