KYANKWANZI - Police say they are investigating an incident in which a mother and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter were electrocuted following an illegal power connection at their home.
The tragedy occurred at about 11:00pm on Saturday, October 25, in Kyankwanzi district.
Addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, on Monday, October 27, 2025, police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said officers found the two victims dead upon arrival at the scene and conveyed their bodies to the mortuary for examination.
“Our preliminary investigations revealed that there was an illegal power connection inside the house. The victims came into contact with an electrical equipment source that had been poorly wired," Kituuma said.
He added that the person suspected to have carried out the illegal connection has been arrested and will face charges related to negligence leading to death.
“The reason I bring up this story is to warn the public about illegal connections,” Kituuma said.
He added, "They are extremely dangerous. Poor wiring, loose conductors, and unqualified installers put lives at risk. In this case, a family has paid the ultimate price.”
He warned that Police will continue to arrest individuals who carry out illegal power connections and those who hire them.
“If our investigators establish that you made or benefited from an illegal connection, you will be held responsible. People must stop hiring unqualified persons to tamper with electricity lines.”
