‘Mobilise people to embrace Gov’t poverty alleviation projects’, PLU supporters told

“Stop the bad dreams. No one will ever give you free money. You must engage in work to get out of poverty, that is why we ask the PLU leaders to join the campaign and fight poverty in our communities,” she explained, adding that President Yoweri Museveni has already set the ball rolling by declaring this term as ‘Hakuna Mchezo’ (serious work, no joking).

LUWERO - Supporters of the Patriotic League Uganda (PLU) pressure group, under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, have been asked to actively mobilise Ugandans to embrace the Government's poverty alleviation projects.

The call was made by the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajat Minsa Kabanda, who says she is a strong supporter of PLU and its activities.

Kabanda said that many Ugandans, especially in the countryside, still live outside the money economy. Unfortunately, she says, they blame the government, yet it has put in place many projects that can help them to get out of poverty.

“PLU has a blood relationship with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), you should therefore engage in mobilising people to embrace the government projects that can alleviate poverty in our communities,” she explained.

The minister was Saturday June 06 speaking at the launch and induction of the PLU Greater Luwero chapter, the first of this kind outside Kampala. Greater Luwero includes Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola.

The launch organised at Arizona Gardens in Busiika Town Council was attended by the Patriots Club chairman, Bob Kakuru, and national PLU members. They included Joshi Baguma, Desire Nangesha, who represented students in higher institutes, Peace Keeza, Haruna Mbabaali, Tom Sajawe and Dr. Joseph Kibirige, who was appointed the Luwero regional chairperson.

The team moved to various schools in Busiika Town Council, where they planted trees, inducted students and pupils into the club and sensitised them about protecting the environment through planting trees. PLU has been engaging in planting trees as one of its moves to protect the environment.

“I am an NRM diehard, but at the same time I strongly support this pressure group because the world is moving in the direction of PLU, we must therefore support them and move together,” she told the supporters at Arizona Gardens at Busoke village in Busiika Town Council.

She said since the NRM and PLU move together, the supporters must not stop only chanting the group’s slogans but also mention and explain the good things the NRM government has done for the people.

“Let us all use all our platforms to mention what the good NRM government has done, including patriotism, democracy, and social economic transformation that includes fighting poverty in our communities,” she said and asked supporters to work along government officials and technocrats to mobilise people to embrace government programmes geared towards eliminating poverty.

Addressing PLU supporters at Arizona Gardens, the minister regretted that the NRM government had done a lot of good things, but it lacks people who can explain them to the people.

“We have many poor people in our communities, but still ignorant that they can utilise the many government projects like the Parish Development Model to transform themselves,” she said, blaming those who still dream of another government that will come and give them free money.

Kakuru said that, among other things, they intended to send a strong message of patriotism, which includes enticing people to love their country.

“As PLU, we work for and under the CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba; we are representing him here, and we want to send his patriotic message to everyone,” he explained.

He said that their strategy was to use the youth and school children to spread further to the grassroots the PLU ideologies across Greater Luwero and later to the entire country.

“We are going to continue planting trees and ask all our supporters to plant more trees wherever they are as one of our ideologies of protecting the environment,” Kakuru explained, adding that this would include taking deliberate actions to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and preserve biodiversity.

Baguma, a PLU national leader, pledged to support schools in engaging in environmental protection and promoting sports. He donated balls and trophies to the participating schools.

The new PLU regional chairman, Eng. Sajawe, pledged to work with his committee to mobilise people to take children to school and embrace all government programmes.

He pledged to lobby their friends to dig boreholes for schools and communities.
