Minister Barugahara wants corruption suspects jailed at Amudat prisons

“If you are a thief of public funds, those selling jobs in local government, repent; if you’re a member of the district service commission and you get arrested, you will not be taken to Masindi or Kiryandongo prisons; no, we are working on the prison for the thieves of government money in the Karamoja region, Amudat district. I have requested the President to allow the renovation of Amudat prisons; we shall have a basement with air conditioners among other facilities.

I propose that the suspects will be given mandatory tasks to ensure that after serving, they will be reformed individuals," he said. 

Revealing his next move of the "crusade to get the corrupt" Barugahara revealed that after visiting Bugisu sub-region, his expose of the campaign will head to greater Masaka, targeting districts: Masaka, Kalungu, Kyotera, Ssembabule districts and Masaka city. He added that during the visit, he will inspect schools, health centers, roads and other government projects.

He called on the local leaders to support him, adding that the fight against corruption requires concerted effort and expressed concern that corruption in local governments has negatively impacted service delivery.

During the same interview, he scoffed at government officials and people criticising his mode of operation as he implemented the corruption campaign.

Without mentioning the names of people and officials criticising his operation, Balaam said that his mode of operation is different from those which were previously conducted by other offices.

"We shall not operate under the same mode which has instead encouraged corruption, our mode of operation is totally different, our mode is ask the public court, the public will inform us that so and so ate our road, we inspect the road, if the road is not there then we hand you to the state house anti-corruption and CID for them they will investigate to the dot and then you will be presented to court.

We need to cease fire but you do not cease fire with someone who is still hostile stealing endlessly, stealing must stop, stealing on local government has negatively impacted service delivery, we need to stand with this government, we need to support the president, his excellency the president at 81 years, he has done whatever he can, what is our role as young people as people born before and after revolution is to defend the gains of the revolution, we shall not defend the gains when we come and Pamper the corrupt, the thieves” he said.

"This is Kisanja no sleep, no corruption and Kisanja no politeness; if you do not act, the president will act on me,” he said Balaam.
