ealth facilities have been urged to report any male patients presenting with burn injuries as police intensify a manhunt for a suspect linked to a fuel station arson and theft in Mukono district.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday (April 7) at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the suspect, identified as Lawrence Mutaka, was previously a supervisor at a Total fuel station in Sonde.

“We are calling upon all medics and health facilities to notify police in case they receive any male victim with suspicious burn injuries,” Owoyesigyire said.

According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 6, 2026, when a fire broke out at the fuel station. Emergency responders managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to nearby property, including parked vehicles.

Preliminary investigations, backed by CCTV footage, indicate that Mutaka allegedly accessed the station offices, stole cash, and then set the premises on fire in an attempt to conceal the crime.

“From the CCTV review, the suspect is seen entering the office, taking cash, and later setting the place ablaze before fleeing,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police believe the suspect may have sustained injuries during the arson, which has informed the appeal to medical workers.

A manhunt has since been launched to apprehend Mutaka, as detectives continue gathering evidence to support prosecution.

Owoyesigyire reiterated that the public should remain vigilant and report any useful information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
